The 10/5 SOOW black cable comes with 5 conductors made of fully annealed stranded bare copper. The conductor stranding stands at 104/30 and this is in compliance with the Class K stranding per ASTM B 174 international standard. The copper strands have gone through the process of annealing which involves heating the copper till it becomes soft enough to be malleable and foldable.
Annealing makes the cable flexible which makes this portable cord to easily cut and bend according to your needs during installation and termination. The five conductors are sized between 18 AWG and 2 AWG and thus can used in a wide range of applications. 10/5 SOOW black has an outside diameter of 0.0770 inches meaning that it can easily fit into circuit ducts when carrying out installations. As the cable is rated 600 volts it can be used for heavy duty power supply and thus why it is often used in industries and other areas that call for heavy duty power. The power cable transmits 20 amps of electric current.
The five annealed copper conductors of the 10/5 SOOW black cable are protected with a premium grade Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) insulation. EPDM is a special rubber that protects the cable from being affected by oil, weather, water, UV light, sunlight, moisture and chemicals. It also protects the end user from being electrocuted when using the cable. The EPDM insulation ensures the cable offers optimal performance. The insulation of the conductors is color-coded Black, White, Red, Green and orange for easy identification. The insulation wall has a nominal outside diameter of 0.045 inches.
All the five copper conductors and the insulation are all together put up in a chlorinated polyethylene jacket material. Also known as CPE, the soft rubber jacket has been finely formulated to ensure the 10/5 SOOW black cable is resistant to weather changes, UV rays, sunlight, water, oil, abrasion and chemicals. The CPE jacket has the ability to operate in both wet and dry environments as it is neither affected by moisture nor heat. Although made of rubber, the jacket is tough enough to withstand any sort of tension and thus cannot develop sort of weakness on its surface.
