Hook Up Wire UL 1061
This UL 1061 Hook up Wire is a dual purpose power cable which is desired to perform in either wet or dry environmental locations. It is made of stranded copper conductors which are flexible and lightweight, which are coated by a moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride for chemical and mechanical protection.
It is designed with a wide copper conductor size of 26 AWG through 16 AWG. The size of the conductor dictates the application and the type of installation the cable will use, as well as its totaling weight; the bigger the conductor the higher the electrical resistivity. Copper has good electrical properties which improve the voltage distribution of the Hook up Wire UL 1061 Cable, as it will not succumb to deformations like creeping easily. However, they are also tinned for maximum performance.
Tinning reduces friction build up as it makes the surface of the conductors smooth. This offers free strip from the insulation, reducing the termination time during installation.
a) MIL-W-16878/2 Type C (105 degrees Celsius)
b) MIL-W-16878/1 Type B (800C)
c) UL Standard 758, Style 1061
d) ASTM B 33
e) CSM AWM I A/B; 800C/600 volts
Polyvinyl Chloride is on the outer layer of this cable, and is black color coded for identification. PVC protects the handler as well as the cable from the punishing outdoor environmental conditions. It is flexible and friction resistant to enhance its installation.

Frequently Asked Questions - Hook Up Wire UL 1061
I want to install UL 1061 Wire, what special instructions should I follow?
Two important things you want to look at when installing UL 1061 are the temperature rating and voltage rating. Make sure you don’t exceed the recommended voltage and temperatures. UL 1061 is designed to work in environments or applications exhibiting temperatures of up to 105 degrees Celsius. In some instances, you may get a variant of the wire that works in temperatures. For example, MIL-W-16878/1 Type B is designed for applications of 80 degrees Celsius while MIL-W- 16878/2 Type C is meant for applications of up to 105 degrees Celsius – both are rated 600 volts. You may also get a version of the cable intended for use in applications of 300 volts. So, look at the voltage and temperature rating to see that they fit your application needs.
How do I identify UL 1061 Wire?
To know if it is UL 1061 Wire, look at the appearance of the material and the insulation. The wire has a silvery look on the outer coating, and this is due to the tin material used to coat it. On the inside, it has a coppery or reddish appearance, which is the core or primary material of the wire. It also comes in strands, so you will find different strands in the wire. The insulation is made of PVC material.
What are the approvals for UL 1061 Wire?
There are different approvals for UL 1061 wire. The wire meets UL Standard 758 – Style 1061. It also meets UL AWM Style 1007 and 1569. Other approvals are UL AWM Style 1061, MIL-W-16878/1 Type B and C. In addition, the wire meets the approvals of CSA AWM 1 A/B, CSA Type SR-PVC and CSA TR64. It is RoH compliant.
Where can I use UL 1061 Wire?
There are different applications for the wire. It can be used for internal wiring of appliances and electronic equipment including computers, automotive components, medical equipment, transformers, home appliances, and industrial controls. You can use the wire in test equipment, communication equipment, and military devices.
