12/3 SOOW Black
12/3 SOOW Black cable suitably designed for wiring where portable power chords are needed. It is also used for wiring home appliances and many industrial equipment. The cable has a gauge size of 12 AWG and three conductors, these are batched together to give it the name 12/3 SOOW Black. It has a voltage of 600 V and supports current of 25 Amps, which means, it is suited for low and medium power distribution in small circuits.
“OO” means that the cable’s jacket and insulation are both resistant to oil and water. They are also resistant to moisture, UV light, industrial solvents and other destructive agents that can make the cable vulnerable.
The 12/3 SOOW Black is distinct because of how it is designed and manufactured. It is designed with conductor stranding of 65/30. This stranding helps to boast its flexibility and conduction efficiency.
12/3 SOOW Black wire has an Outer Diameter of 0.595 inches and an insulation wall of 0.045 inches. These characteristics are significant in reinforcing the cable security features of the insulation. An insulation should be thick enough to protect cable conductors and should not cause unnecessary bulkiness to a cable. 12 AWG 3 Conductor SOOW Black has a lightweight of 224 Lbs per 1000 FT.
12/3 SOOW Black cable is constructed using fully annealed bare stranded copper conductor. Copper has a lot of advantages as far as its conduction performance is concerned. A part from that, it is lightweight, strong and soft, these coupled together make a good conductor for 12/3 SOOW Black. The conductors are annealed and stranded to make them more efficient. Annealing helps to improve the conductor electron bonds hence makes it more stable with a sustained longevity while stranding improves the conductor flexibility.
A special type of insulation called ethylene propylene is used for the 12/3 SOOW Black cable. The insulation is highly flexible so the cables is easy to transport and install into trays and ducts. Ethylene propylene is oil and moisture resistant and protects the wires from all fluids. This makes the cable suitable for marine and mining applications.
A sturdy jacket made from chlorinated polyethylene is used as an overall wrap for the cable. It houses the conductors and their insulations. Chlorinated polyethylene jacket has a good resistance to oils and water. It also repulses sunlight and retards flame so that any risks ofthe cable losing its efficiency in case of fire is reduced.
12/3 SOOW Black operates well in a maximum temperature of 90 degrees Celsius in both dry and wet places. The wires have allowable ampacity of 25 Amperes current at maximum temperature of 900C. The cable can safely operate in temperature as low as -400C and as high as 900C. It is this wide temperature range that makes 12 AWG 3 Conductor SOOW fit for many applications. It is tested at many levels and proven to be good for use in the stipulated applications.
12/3 SOOW Black has been used in many applications but it is commonly used as portable power cord. Due to its flexibility and many advantages, it is found in electrical circuits for power tools, home appliances, electrical motors, machines, construction tools and power extensions. The cable has varied applications in residential, commercial and industrial systems.
Besides these many applications, it’s also used in places such as marinas, mines, entertainment sport complex, mills and other facilities. This is due to its broad scope of applications.
