14/4 SOOW Black
The 14/4 SOOW Black is an outstanding cable with outstanding features such as the ability to resist water, oil, weather, abrasion and sunlight. 14/4 SOOW cable black has 4 conductors and is sized 14 AWG. All the four conductors are color- coded differently for easy identification while installing the cable. The portable power cord weighs only 201 lbs and is very light to carry around from one point to another. The cable is known to be a heavy duty cable as it is 600 volts with 15 amps. It is thus ideal for industry and marine environments. The cable can operate comfortably in both wet and dry locations as its temperature ratings range between -400 C and 900 C. The cable comprises of a conductor, insulation and a jacket. All these are made with materials with the ability to with stand the harshest of conditions.
Key features of the 14/4 SOOW black
The conductor is a very important component and needs to be constructed with the most ideal material. The 14/4 SOOW black cable is a multi-conductor cable with 4 conductors all of which are made of fully annealed bare copper. The copper has been annealed so as to make it soft and flexible. A rigid cable is difficult to bend and cut making the installation and termination processes strenuous. Annealing is thus a very important process. The conductor transmits up to 600 volts of power at 15 amps. The copper conductor has an outside diameter of 0.570 inches and the conductor stranding stands at 41/30. The conductor is safe for use as it has been constructed in compliance with the class K stranding per ASTM B 174 standard.
The insulation comes after the copper conductor and is made of Ethylene Propylene (EPDM). EPDM is a premium grade oil rubber. It shields the conductor from oil, abrasion, chemicals, water and sunlight. The rubber also shields the end user from being electrocuted. Ethylene Propylene also helps the cable to be resistant to impacts, which is a common occurrence in the industrial and marine locations.
The jacket is found at the outermost part of the cable and is black in color. The black material is a rubber known as Chlorinated Polyethylene otherwise known as CPE. CPE protects both the conductor and the insulation from damage. It is resistant to water, oil, weather, UV lights, chemicals and sunlight. The CPE jacket makes the 14/4 SOOW black cable safe for all to use as it is flame- retardant. During a fire outbreak the CPE produces a certain compound that makes it not to burn up. It makes the cable durable.
The 12/4 SOOW black cable has been proven and tested to be safe by the following bodies;
Even when fully submerged in water, the cable still remains resistant. The cable can be used in marine applications thanks to its ability to resist water and oil. The cable is used in systems of water purification, industrial machinery, handy compressors and in controls for instance in push button remotes. The 14/4 SOOW black wire is used for both indoor and outdoor applications. The 600 volts ratings means he cable is ideal for heavy duty power supply. However, it can still be used for low power supply.
