10/4 SOOW Black 600V
The 10/4 SOOW black is a versatile cable with the ability to operate optimally in harsh environments because of the EPDM insulation and the CPE jacket. The insulation and jacket materials of this cable have been specially designed to ensure the cable is resistant to oil, water and is not affected by weather patterns and changes. Its temperature ratings stand at -400 C and 900 C and thus allowing the portable power cord can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. The cable has been rated 10/4 meaning that it is a 10 AWG cable with four conductors. All the conductors are made of copper, a highly flexible material with great conductivity.

Conductor
This is a 10/4 cable which means that it has 4 conductors of 10 AWG size. All the 4 conductors are made of fully annealed bare copper. The 10/4 SOOW black is known to be a highly flexible cable. This is because the conductors have been taken through the annealing process. This process involves heating the copper till it becomes soft. It is softened because working with a rigid conductor makes the installation and termination processes difficult.
Annealing therefore makes the cable flexible enough to cut and bend in accordance to one’s needs. The conductor has 600 volts and 25 amps making the cable ideal for heavy duty power supply such as in industrial set up. However, it can still be used for medium voltage applications such as in commercial and residential applications. Each of the 4 conductors have 104/30 stranding.
Insulation
Each of the four copper conductors of the 10/4 SOOW black cable have been insulated with a premium grade oil resistant EPDM material. Apart from being oil resistant, EPDM rubber is also resistant to moisture, sunlight, chemicals and abrasion. This ensures the cable performs optimally regardless of the surrounding conditions. The EPDM insulation also protects the user from being electrocuted and also protects the cable in case of short circuit.
Jacket
The 10/4 SOOW black is jacketed with chlorinated polyethylene, CPE. The CPE works to protect both the conductor and the insulation. CPE has been used because of its outstanding features such as the ability to resist oil, water, weather changes, chemicals, ozone, sunlight, UV rays and abrasion. One factor making CPE the most ideal jacket material is that during combustion, it releases a unique compound that makes the cable not catch fire. This is an important safety measure making the cable ideal in areas that could be prone to fire outbreaks. All these factors make the cable serves you for a longer period of time.
Approvals and certifications
The 10/4 SOOW black cable has been constructed and tested according various international regulations that govern the construction of wires and cables. This meets the following international standards;
- RoHS compliant
- MSHA
- NEC 501.140 Class 1 Division 2
Applications of the 10/4 portable SOOW wire
The National Electric Code Article 400 stipulates how the 10/4 SOOW black wire is applied. As the jacket and insulation are oil and moisture resistant, this portable cord can be used for marine applications. The cable may as well utilized in wet and dry locations with temperatures as high as 900 C and as low as -400 C. the cable can be used in residential, industrial and commercial set ups in the following areas;
- Mill equipment
- Generators
- Motors of all sizes
- Construction equipment and vehicles
- Computer cords
- Electrical systems in sports complexes
- Electric lawn mowers and hedge trimmers
- Refrigerators and other appliances
- Tools used in shipyards, marinas and other damp locations
