14/3 SOOW Black
The 14/3 SOOW black cable is an ideal cable for oily, dry and wet areas. This is because it has been designed to be resistant to oil, water and weather changes. The cable is available at a minimum length of 10 ft and a maximum length of 1000 ft. it is ideal for harsh environments as its construction comprises of a conductor, insulation and a jacket. 14/3 means the cable size is 14 AWG and has 3 conductors. The conductors are followed by EPDM insulation and a CPE jacket. Both the jacket and the insulation materials protect the conductor from damages and thus ensuring provides maximum performance. The portable cord only weighs 169 Lbs per 1000 FT making it easy to carry around during installation.

This is a multi- conductor cable comprising of only 3 conductors. All the 3 conductors of the 14/3 SOOW black are made of fully annealed stranded bare copper. Copper is a good conductor and thus the most ideal material. It is taken through the annealing process so that it becomes soft for it to bend and cut easily. Dealing with a flexible conductor makes installation and termination processes easy. The conductor has an outside diameter of 0.525 inches making it easy to fit easily into circuit ducts. This is a heavy duty cable because it is rated 600 volts and transmits power at 18 amps. The conductor size is 14 AWG but can however be used for a wide range of activities as it also ranges between 18 AWG and 2 AWG.
The 14/3 SOOW black cable has an Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) insulation. EPDM is a rubber material that protects the copper conductor from physical and chemical damages. The insulation is oil resistant, water, chemical and abrasion resistant. This makes the cable serve you for a longer time despite the unfavorable conditions. The EPDM rubber also protects the end user from being electrocuted and from short- circuit.
This portable cord has been jacketed with Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE). The CPE is an ideal material for the 14/3 SOOW black cable as it is oil, water, UV light and sunlight resistant. The jacket protects the insulation and the conductor from harsh environmental conditions. The CPE jacket is colored black for easy identification. The jacket makes the cable to remain flexible throughout even in cold weather. The CPE jacket is not just flexible but also rough and tough to withstand any reactions that the surface may be subjected to. The jacket also releases a special compound during combustion and thud does not burn during a fire outbreak.
Approvals and certifications
The 14/3 SOOW black has been constructed in line with different international standards and rules. The copper conductor specifically has been constructed as per the class K stranding per ASTM B 174 standard. The following are the rules and standards the SOOW cable complies with;
- NEC 501. 140 Class I Division 2
- NEC article 400
This power cable is ideal for dry and humid environments. The cable is used in systems of water purification, industrial machinery, handy compressors and in controls for instance in push button remotes. The cable can be used in marine applications thanks to its ability to resist water and oil. The jacket and insulation materials making up the 14 AWG 3 Conductor SOOW black wire enables it to be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. Its high voltage rating, 600 volts, allows the cable to be used in heavy duty industrial applications.
