14/5 SOOW Black
The black 14/5 SOOW cable is a power supply cable that is used to transmit power to industrial, commercial and residential electronic equipment in need of huge amounts of electric current. It has the ability to supply up to 600 volts of power at 12 amps. The 14/5 SOOW black cable weighing 272 lbs per 1000 feet is available at a minimum length of 10 feet and a maximum length of 1000 feet. The cable size is measured in gauges and is 14 AWG. It comprises of 4 conductors, an insulator made of EPDM and a jacket made of CPE. The insulation and jacket materials go a long way in ensuring the conductor is well protected to perform best regardless of the harsh surrounding environments.
Key features of the 14/5 SOOW black
The conductor is the innermost part of this portable cable. The 14 AWG 5 Conductor SOOW Black is a multi- conductor with 5 conductors all colored differently for quick identification. The 5 conductors have all been made of fully annealed bare copper. The bare copper has been annealed and this process entails making the cable soft. It is the annealing process that is responsible for the cable being highly flexible. A flexible wire and cable allows the people installing and terminating to easily cut and bend the cable according to one’s needs. 14/5 means the cable size is 14 AWG and it comes with 5 conductors. The conductors transmit power at 600 volts and 12 amps. The conductor stranding is 41/30. The construction of the conductor is in line with the class K stranding per ASTM B 174.
14/5 SOOW black comprises of a premium grade oil resistant Ethylene Propylene (EPDM) insulation. The insulation rubber protects the conductor from various damages. The material is resistant to oil, chemicals, ozone, abrasion, UV rays and sunlight. It therefore ensures that the cable will operate as expected whether in hot or cold surroundings. The EPDM insulation also protects the end user from being electrocuted at any one point and also from short – circuiting.
This is the outermost part of the 14-5 SOOW black cable. It is black in color. The jacket has been made of Chlorinated Propylene (CPE). This one provides maximum protection to the insulation and copper conductor. Together with the insulation, they protect the conductor from being affected by huge impacts. In the event the cable gets completely submerged into water, the CPE material ensures the cable still remains unaffected by the water. CPE is known to be resistant to oil, water, chemicals, abrasion and sunlight. As the place of application of this power cable may be affected by fire outbreaks, the CPE comes in handy to ensure the cable is flame retardant.
The 14/3 SOOW black has been constructed in line with different international standards and rules. The following are the rules and standards the SOOW cable complies with;
Its high voltage rating, 600 volts, allows the cable to be used in heavy duty industrial applications. The cable can be used in marine applications thanks to its ability to resist water and oil. The jacket and insulation materials making up the 14/5 SOOW black wire enables it to be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. The cable is used in systems of water purification, industrial machinery, handy compressors and in controls for instance in push button remotes.
