Fire Alarm Shielded and Non-Plenum Cable
Just as the name would suggest, the Shielded & Non-Plenum fire alarm cable has a shield made of aluminum mylar. Shielding holds the copper conductors in their positions, preventing them from overlapping. This improves the electrical conductivity and helps in maintaining the circular phase identification for this cable. It is insulated and closely bonded with a draining wire. A rip cord is also instilled under the jacketing to provide stripping during termination. The cable is jacketed and tested to comply with the requirements of International Standards organizations.

The solid copper conductors which are creep resistance improve the longevity of this cable. Copper is a good conductor, thanks to its good tensile strength and thermal conductivity. These conductors are flexible and do not take much time toinstall because they can easily be twisted and folded to fit into the wire ducts and trays. Soft copper conductors are not labor intensive and requires less effort to handle..
Conductors are properly insulated with either polyvinyl chloride or polypropylene to prevent the conductors from getting into contacts with each other. Insulation is very important as it prevents power blows and faults that may arise in case the conductors are in contacts and keeps the cable handler from electrical shocks.
Jacketingis the outer layer which is made of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) to protect the cable from the punishing environmental conditions. Fire Alarm Cables are often installed in areas prone to flames, fires or smoke and for this reason they are jacketed with PVC which is flame retardant and moisture resistant. This maintains their performance in the presence of fire.
