Fire Alarm Shield Plenum

Plenum is the space that offers air circulation and conditioning to this fire alarm cable. Since it is installed in locations which are vulnerable to smokes and fires, the Plenum Fire Alarm is best suited for its application. It is made of copper conductors which are insulated with a polypropylene and color coded for easy identification. The cable is wrapped with an Aluminum Mylar for shielding. A tinned draining wire made of copper is longitudinally bonded to the shielded conductors and covered with the PVC jacketing.

• Standards and Certifications

  These are standards set by the international laboratory that should be complied to. As for Plenum Fire Alarms these specifications are met:

  a) National Engineers Code (NEC) Article 760
  b) Underwriters Laboratory (UL) FPLP
  c) CUL Type CMP or Flame Test 6
  d) ASTM B3 and B8

• Conductor

  The Plenum Fire Alarm Shield cable is designed with solid copper conductors which are annealed in accordance to ASTM B3 and B8 standards. Annealing simply refers to the process of heating the conductors at higher temperatures and allowing them to cool. This makes them softer and flexible without losing the electrical conductive properties.

  Grounding wire is tinned to prevent oxidation. Tinning involves coating the conductor with a thin layer of tin in electrolysis. It protects the conductor fromcorrosive chemicals. This improves the service life of the cable.

• Insulation and Jacketing

  Polypropylene polymer is used as insulation for this cable. This polymer insulation is thermoplastic and does not succumb to abrasion easily. It keeps the conductors from deformations. Individual insulation of these conductors creates a barrier between the conductorsthus preventing any contacts which would lead to short circuits. Polyvinyl Chloride jacketing offers an additional chemical and mechanical protection to the cable.
