Construction
500-4 type G power cable construction comprises of four copper conductors, grounding wire, EPDM insulation and a robust CPE jacket which holds the cable firmly.
Conductors
Conductors are vital in any cable construction. They are responsible for transmitting current in the cable. The 500-4 type G power and mining cable has four copper conductors and one grounding wire. Copper is the best pick due its amazing electrical properties. The conductors have a stranding of 1295/24 which is in line with ASTM B 174. Stranding of copper conductors enhances its ductility, rigidity, flexibility and surface area for transmission of more current. Furthermore the conductor is annealed, which is a process whereby copper is heated till it becomes soft and flexible. Annealing improves the flexibility of the cable therefore the cable can bend or fold without breaking or tearing.

Jacket

Its jacket is made of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE). CPE is a flame retardant material. It forms an incombustible substance which effectively slows down the spread of fire while at the same time facilitating transmission of power. The jacket is also resistant to water which means it can be submerged in water and still work properly which makes it ideal for marine applications. The CPE jacket is also resistant to oil, chemicals, sunlight, ozone, weather and impact.
The jacket is flexible therefore it can easily maneuver through tight corners without forming lines of weakness. Lastly the jacket has a high tensile strength which prevents it from tearing or crushing during power transmission.
