Aluminum Duplex Overhead cable is designed for use to supply 120 volt aerial service for temporary service at construction sites, outdoor or street lighting. For service at 600 volts or lower at a conductor temperature of 75°C maximum.
Aluminum Duplex Overhead cable has a concentric strand or compressed 1350-H19 series aluminum series aluminum conductor.
Aluminum Duplex Overhead cable has a bare ACSR messenger. Optional constructions include a messenger of AAC
or 6201 alloy.
Aluminum Duplex Overhead cable has a black cross linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation.
Aluminium Duplex Overhead Conductor
Duplex simply means that this cable has two conductors; one for electrodes and the other for messenger (neutral) conductor. The Aluminium Duplex Overhead power cable is designed and manufactured for use in 120 volts power distribution facilities. This cable is aerially installed with an operational temperature rating of 750C. Just as its name suggests, it has aluminium conductors which are insulated with a cross linked polyethylene for chemical and mechanical protection, forming the circular core. A bare messenger wire made of aluminium is longitudinally laid on the conductors.

• ASTM B-230
• ASTM B-231
• ASTM B-232
• ASTM B-399
• ICEA S – 76 – 474
• Conductor strand; 6/1 (7)
• Phase conductor size; 6 AWG
• Insulation thickness; 0.045 inches
• Outside diameter; 650 inches
• Neutral messenger size; 6 AWG
• Allowable ampacity; 85 Amps

• Conductor’s size
The 1350-H19 aluminium conductor series used is size 6 in accordance to American Wire Gauge (AWG). Aluminiumconductors are in seven strands.
• Conductor’s workability
This cable is made of concentrically stranded and compacted 1350-H19 aluminium series. Aluminium made cables is lightweight and flexible making them easier to install as compared to stiff-rigid and heavy weight copper cables. You will agree with me that lightweight cables require less energy to lift and move around during installation, hence facilitating installation. Flexible Aluminium Duplex cables are labour intensive alternative, because they are not labour demanding as they need less effort to fold and wound into drums for shipment.
• Messenger Wire
A messenger wire acts as the neutral path and is also made of aluminium 1350-H19 series, at 6 AWG and is left bare.
The cross linked Polyethylene insulation has a thickness of 650 inches adding to 0.75 lbps weight of the cable per ft. XLP is black colour coded for easy identification. This layer offers a superb protection to the conductors from direct mechanical stress, strong sunlight radiations and corrosive chemicals. XLP creates a boundary between the messenger wire and the conductors, ensuring that they do not come into contacts which would cause power faults hence improving the electrical conductivity of the cable. It is also non-conducting and thus does not expose the user to electric shocks when handling the cable.
