• Conductor

I plan to use SGT 105C battery wire, what instructions should I follow?


If you are doing a wiring installation using SGT 105C wire, you want to ensure that it meets the temperature and voltage specifications. This wire has a temperature rating of up to 105 degrees Celsius. So, use it in areas that experience that range of temperature and not near or in locations where the temperatures may be higher than that. The voltage is about 60 volts so make sure it remains within the range.


Why is the voltage dropping at the end of the batter wire SGT 105C?


When measure the voltage at the battery using your voltage meter, it may read 12 volts. However, when you measure the voltage at the end of the cable you have connected to the battery, it reads slightly lower. This is called the voltage drop. For example, if it reads 11.76 volts at the end of the battery cable, it means that there is a 2 percent voltage drop and this is caused by the resistance of the wire. That is the reason you need to have the correct size of battery wire to ensure minimal resistance and voltage drop. A 2 percent voltage drop may be considered normal or appropriate for most electrical systems, but if it is more than that, then it means something is not right. Either the length of the wire or the gauge or both are not appropriate for that system. The longer your battery cable, the more voltage drop you are going to experience and the large the gauge (AWG) or the diameter, the less the drop in voltage you will encounter in your wiring installation.
