Details

Automotive Wire TXL

It is generally used in medium weight industrial and automotive applications. It can operate in a wide range of temperatures specifically from -400C to 1250C in both wet and dry environments respectively. The size of the cable varies from 8 AWG to 22 AWG. It is mostly meant for medium to light weight applications since its voltage rating goes up to 50 volts. On this post ill share with you some of the amazing features of the automotive wire TXL. Let’s get on to the details.

Conductor

The conductor transmits current from point A to point B; it’s the core of the cable. Henceforth the choice of the conductor should be one that has amazing electrical and thermal properties. Stranded bare copper is used as its conductor. The copper conductor is flexible, durable, affordable and a good conductor. It is also easy to install and transport.

Insulation

TXL cable insulation is made from cross linked polyethylene (XLPE). This material can withstand flames, radiation, impact, corrosion, abrasion, sunlight, chemicals, oils and acids. The insulation is color coded which allows easy identification of the cable depending on the different conductor sizes. The insulation can be easily stripped in order to identify if it’s a TXL wire.

Industrial ratings and approvals

This ensures that the cable withholds the properties stated by the manufacturer. The TXL automotive wire has the following certifications;

• SAE J-1128
• Ford ESB-M1L123A
• Chrysler MS-8288

Applications

It is meant for applications not exceeding 50 volts, mostly in motor vehicles as a power cable.

Frequently Asked Questions- Automotive Wire TXL

I want to install TXL wire, what instructions should I follow?

When doing an installation for TXL wire on an automotive, you want to ensure that it will suffice.  The temperature and voltage are two elements that virtually apply to every wire or cable. You want to make sure that you are using the TXL wire in application with temperatures not more than 125 degrees Celsius. Remember some areas of the car tend to experience temperatures higher than that. For example, areas around the engine will tend to be hot and the wire may not survive those temperatures. The voltage rating for TXL wire is 50 volts.

How do I identify Automotive Wire TXL?

This cable has extra thin wall made of XLPE material. To identify if it TXL wire, you need to strip out the insulation and see if it appears coppery or reddish in color. Since it is made of bare copper, you want to ensure that it does not look coated. Look at the labeling too just to confirm that it is automotive wire TXL.

I have a specific color I want for my automotive wire installation. What do I do?

When buying TXL wire, inquire about the color options available. You will find that the wire comes in assorted colors. Ask if the manufacturer does color and print options in case the specific color you want is not in stock inventory.

Why is the size of the TXL wire you buy so important?

In order for the electrical system of an automotive to perform properly, the size of the wire should be chosen based on the amperage or amount of current it will handle. The wire should be able to carry that particular current. Another thing that is looked at in the sizing of wire is the length. For instance, if you are adding some floodlights to your truck and these lights are drawing a current of up to 15 amps, then the wire that you need to connect the floodlights is about 9ft. Also, you must get the correct gauge of the wire and for this case, a 12-gauge wire would be appropriate. The reason the size of the automotive wire is very important is that; when electricity is passing through the wire, it will encounter resistance. Some of the electricity is be converted into heat and it is absorbed by the wire. That’s why when you touch the wire, you may feel some heat. What happens is that at the end of that wire, there will be a voltage drop due to the energy lost.
