SJEOOW cable has excellent resistant to abrasion due to its oil and water resistant coating, flame-retardant property and its viability in the harshest of environments. It is fitted with a fully annealed stranded copper conductor, Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) insulation and class 36 TPE for jacketing.
SJEOOW is similar to SEOOW cable in everything except for the 300V and 600V rating respectively. This means that it can perform in similar environments and survive the same harsh conditions.

SJEOOW Portable Cable has a voltage rating of 300V. It has a fully annealed bare copper conductor. Annealing the conductor is done through heat treatment to alter the physical and chemical composition of the copper to make it harder, more flexible and to increase its ductility.
Copper wire is preferable for conduction because of its superiority in electrical conductivity and faster speed of conduction. It has a partially filled outermost energy level that gives room for the many electrons to carry electric currents.
Copper wire also makes a good conductor due to its good tensile strength. This enables it to resist creep, stretching, nicks and breaks during or after installation thus preventing interruptions and service failures.
Besides being a good electrical conductor, copper is a good thermal conductor as well. Its high thermal conduction gives it the ability to dissipate excess heat from the terminals and connections; this prevents the cables from melting due to excess heat in the system.
Copper wire is very ductile. Its ductility enables it to be drawn into the required diameter and gauge. Its ductility also contributes to its supple nature that gives it the good flexibility. A flexible cable can be folded, twisted and turned to fit into cable trays and ducts without breaking during transport and installation respectively.
SJEOOW Portable Cable is made from a Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE). TPE is an oil resistant organic polymer which is a synthetic rubber in nature. Being a synthetic rubber means that it has good mechanical strength and great resistance to environmental factors like abrasion, moisture, weather, chemicals and bases. TPE is water proof hence can be fully submerged in water but still remain functional. It is very flexible and thus allows for easy installation and transport.
The insulation also protects the user from unnecessary accidents that often arises from electrocution or fires due to exposure of naked wires.
A jacket is the outermost coating that shells all the interior components of the cable. For the SJEOOW Portable Cord, TPE is used as the jacketing material. TPE as stated earlier is a synthetic fiber that has high mechanical strength that suits it to serve as a jacketing material. It has brilliant resistance towards ozone, sunlight, abrasion, chemical and oil resistance. It is also highly water proof and can function in wet environments without the worry of affecting the functionality of the conductor.
The TPE jacket is easy to strip during installation without the need for special tools and equipment. The flame retardant jacket has a primary black color that makes it easy to distinguish from other SOOW cables. On the other hand the jacket is lightweight and flexible making it ideal for its applications.
SJEOOW Portable Cable is applicable in a wide range of environmental spheres, and its uses diversified. The cable can be used for both indoor and outdoor application due to its high resistance to oil and water. This is made possible by the tough PTE jacketing that can endure extreme mechanical hardship and temperature but still maintain their physical and chemical properties.

What does the “J” denote in SJEOOW?
“J” stands for “Junior” and has all the other characteristics as that of SEOOW cords, with all the usual features such as oil-resistant jacket and insulation, weather resistance and Thermoplastic Polymer (TPE). When there is no “J” the cord can be used for extra hard usage while the “J” indicates hard usage only at 300V.
What are the physical features of SJEOOW Portable Black Cord?
The conductors are usually fully annealed 18 through 10 AWGstranded bare copper wires as per ASTM B-174. There might be 2-4 conductors which are color coded and therefore, easy to use. The copper conductors have TPE insulation, which is resistant to heat, oil and moisture. The cord also has a TPE jacket over the entire assembly. The cord is very flexible and is used where there is a need for the cords to be used in tight and difficult to maneuver places.
What are the applications that SJEOOW Portable Black Cord can be used for?
The cord can be used for all the applications that a SEOOW cord is used for along with many other applications as specified in Article 400 and other related articles of the NEC. However, you have to make sure that you use the appropriate connectors which suit 300V. Since it is weather resistant, you can use it for all indoor and outdoor purposes as well.
Can I use the SJEOOW Portable Black Cord for temperatures below 0°C?
Yes, you can as there is very little difference between the SJEOOW and SEOOW cord. The SJEOOW cord also has a wide temperature range, which is between -50°C to 105°C and the jacket is made of TPE. So it is the ideal cord to be used whenever you need temporary power supply.

Can I suspend the cord when in use?
Yes, the cord can be suspended but the cord has to be connected in such a way that the tension is spread evenly. You will just have to make sure that the joints and the terminals are not strained when the cord is suspended. You can also use strain relievers according to NEC codes section 400-10.
