Cable Management

How Are Cable Management Solutions Evolving in the 2020s

With the world leaning towards automation, new cable management solutions are popping out like daisies from the snow to make wire and cable management even more comfortable than it currently is. New cable management solutions and accessories are arriving in every market segment, be it residential, commercial, or industrial wiring. This article provides an overview of the most recent cable management solutions, focusing on residential and industrial solutions, as well as accessories that we sell at Nassau National Cable.

Popular Cable Management Solutions For Homes and Offices

  • Under-desk cable tray. This is not your standard cable tray but rather a basket stored under your table to keep the communication cables from cluttering.
  • Raceway kits. This is a universal tool for both homes and offices that organize the cables. It is a flexible rectangular system with multiple round openings for each type of cable. All you have to do to organize your cables is to put each one through a hole in the top. This popular solution is often paced at both the work desk and in the drawer under the entertainment system in homes.
  • Wrap cable ties. The best solutions on the market are often the simplest ones. If you store your cables in the drawer, use wrap cable ties to keep them organized and serve you for longer.
  • Other home and office solutions include the multitude of clips, wraps, and holders, including the rubber ones that might be easily attached to the wall.

Popular Industrial Cable Management Solutions For Homes and Offices

  • Bunding Items that keep cables in one place, including ties, lacing tapes, fasteners, loops, and hangers.
  • Cable sleeving for external cable protections. The subtypes of sleeves include but are not limited to tubes, braided sleeves, sleeves that offer extra protection from heat, metal sleeves, sleeves that protect from fire, and fiberglass sleeves. The covers that offer protection from abrasion and mechanical damage are also a part of this category.

Flexible Conduits

Flexible Conduits are additional armor used outside with cables. They present a cable management solution used to protect cables and wires and give them structural support from damages. These conducts can be jacketed metallic, unjacketed metallic, and nonmetallic.

Jacketed flexible conduits are resistant to corrosion and are used when the power of strong metal is needed to protect the cable. Unjacketed metallic flexible metallic conduits generally have more flexibility than their jacketed counterparts. Both of these are UL and CSA rated. Nonmetallic flexible conduits make an excellent choice when the environment is highly corrosive to the point that a metallic conduit will not be able to sustain it under any circumstances. They are also suitable for applications that require high flexibility.

Power Connectors

Common power connectors are lugs made either of aluminum or copper.

What is the purpose of a lug?

Cable lugs are metallic connectors that unite two cables when connecting them permanently or connecting the cable to other electrical equipment. They look like a small tubular piece of metal with a tubular and a flat part and a round hole in the middle of the plat part.

Lugs are made of either copper or aluminum. While copper is generally considered a superior material for the electrical wiring of all kinds, both copper and aluminum lugs serve an identical purpose. The main concern you might have when choosing between the two types of lugs is money, as aluminum lugs are much cheaper.

Cable Glands

Cable glands, often called connectors, grids, or fittings, are cable management solutions created to connect the electrical cord to the connective equipment at its end. Cable lugs and glands are shaped very differently. The primary difference between them is that the gland is only used to connect the cable to electrical equipment, and it never really connects two cables. Moreover, the gland is only attached at the end of the electrical cable at its end.

Cable glands are almost exclusively used in all types of industrial applications. Depending on whether the accessory is used for power, control, communication, or other common types of applications, different glands might be preferred. At Nassau National Cable, we sell all kinds of cable glands, including armored, unarmored, braided, suitable for explosive environments, flexible, and many others. Cable glands that we sell predominantly have a steel aluminum armor.

Ground Rods Accessories

Ground rods are the type of electrical system solution that connects the grounding system of the building to the earth. The purpose of the ground rod is to minimize the danger of electrocution or other electrical incidents in your houses. Some older homes do not have a ground rod, and in this case, the best solution is to install it.

Some innovative accessories for existing ground rods sold by Nassau National Cable include ground rods clamps used to connect two ground rods, grounding plates that accommodate ground rods and are used for direct burial, and an additional Clear PVC grounding cable.
